Roof Replacement Considerations

May 18, 2018

Roof replacement projects arise every now and then and for various reasons. Before scheduling a roof inspection from a local Frisco roofer, there are a couple of places you could inspect to check if a leakage on the roof has made its way to your home’s interior.

Check the Inside of Your Home

Carefully observe the ceilings that are below the attic. Regardless of the weather outside, evidence of water damage, if present, can be seen. Your roof may require immediate attention if you see any cracks or sagging and staining. Excess moisture, mold development, or other indications of severe temperature in the attic will mean that a roof repair is necessary or that better insulation needs to be installed.

Scan Your Roof from the Ground

You can be able to see any severely damaged areas of your shingles by doing a visual scan from the ground. Check for any cracked, bald and missing or torn shingles. Also observe for loose material around the roof, near your chimney, pipes or vents. You should check the ground below to see any eaves. Lastly, you need to look at the drain spouts for any shingle granules present. All these signs indicate that your roof needs to be repaired.

Rooftop Inspections

It is recommended that you do not go up the roof yourself in order to do a rooftop inspection. If you are sure you are comfortable going to the top of your roof, you should read Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA’s) safety standards and invest in proper safety equipment.

You may want to leave this part of inspecting your roof to an experienced local contractor. The roofer will be able to do a thorough roof inspection. He will then offer a full diagnostic of the roof’s condition and estimate the cost of the necessary repairs or replacement. Roofers usually check your gutter systems for any signs of detachment or deterioration. Areas of penetration such as plumbing vents and chimneys are inspected to ensure the flashings and sealants used are still working properly. The visible broken, warped or missing roofing material will indicate obvious signs of problems with your roof.

The Contractor

Make sure that you work with a reputable and experienced roofing contractor during this time. This can yield great results and save you a lot of money and headache in the long run.
